The Story of Château Bel-Air La Royère
The Origins of Château Bel-Air La Royère
In Cars, in the heart of Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux
In 1992, the Chevrier family, fourth-generation winegrowers, fell in love with this historic estate in Cars, at the heart of the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. The potential was clear, but there was much to be done.
Driven by passion and determination, Xavier Loriaud and Corinne Chevrier embarked on the complete restoration of the vineyards and buildings, breathing new life into Château Bel-Air La Royère.
Both descended from families of Cognac producers, they drew inspiration from their heritage while choosing to forge their own path in the Bordeaux wine region. These bold decisions laid the foundations for the estate’s distinctive identity.
Over the years, Château Bel-Air La Royère has distinguished itself through bold choices, always driven by a commitment to quality and a desire to give meaning to everything it does.
As early as 1995, Xavier Loriaud and Corinne Chevrier chose to bring Malbec back into the spotlight, at a time when this historic Bordeaux grape variety had largely fallen out of favour.
Since 2010, Corinne Chevrier has continued the work they began together.
This spirit of innovation has continued with the estate’s conversion to organic viticulture, officially certified in 2019, as well as experiments with alternative ageing methods, including amphorae and former Cognac barrels.
More recently, the estate replanted Castets, a historic Bordeaux grape variety, once again demonstrating its commitment to bringing tradition and modernity together.
A Family-Run Wine Estate
Built around sharing knowledge, passion and experience
Alongside Corinne Chevrier, a close-knit, predominantly female team works every day in the vineyards, in the winery and welcoming visitors to the estate. The team is made up of Corinne, Nadège, Angélique and Victor.
Together, they make Château Bel-Air La Royère a vibrant, welcoming wine estate where care is taken at every stage, precision matters and visitors are welcomed with warmth and simplicity.
More than simply a place where wine is made, Château Bel-Air La Royère is a place for meeting, sharing and enjoying time together.
The tours, tastings and events held throughout the year are a natural extension of the estate’s story, creating a direct connection between the wines, the terroir and the people who bring it all to life.
